Datadog’s remote MCP server lets agents query logs, metrics, traces, monitors, dashboards, incidents, and related observability data. Enable MCP at the Datadog organization level, then register the server in TrueFoundry.

Prerequisites

  • A TrueFoundry account with permission to add MCP servers.
  • A Datadog organization. Government sites are not supported by Datadog’s hosted MCP server.
  • Datadog admin access to enable MCP.

Enable MCP in Datadog

In Datadog, open Organization Settings > Preferences and enable MCP Access. Enable MCP Write Access only if users should create or modify Datadog resources. For custom roles, open Organization Settings > Roles, search permissions for mcp, and grant MCP Read. Grant MCP Write only to users who need write tools.

Register in TrueFoundry

Add a remote OAuth MCP server with:

Add collaborators and save the server. Users should open the server’s Tools section and click Connect Now; after OAuth succeeds, Datadog tools appear and can be tried from the Agent Playground.

Security Notes

Datadog MCP permissions do not grant resource access by themselves; they only unlock the MCP surface on top of the user’s existing Datadog role. Keep MCP Write disabled for general access.
